"Experience of attending Kettering A & E dept &..."

About: Kettering General Hospital / Accident and emergency

My GP sent me to Kettering A & E department recently as I was very unwell. Yes there was quite a wait but that is to be expected in a busy A & E department. I was seen by a very pleasant junior doctor first who was very thorough and went through everything with me in a friendly but professional manner.

The doctor then consulted with their senior doctor to confirm their diagnosis, who then joined us to explain. To rule out further problems the doctor arranged for me to have a ct brain scan which was carried out in due course. I was also given IV fluids and an anti sickness injection while I waited. Once the ct scan was done I was told the results and that I was being admitted for the night for more tests and IV fluid. In due course I was transferred to the Clifford Ward under the nurses care. I was admitted on the ward and soon settled into bed. The ward doctor then came to see me to explain the situation. I was given more IV fluids and anti sickness medication. I spent the night on the ward and couldn't believe how hard all the nurses work, they never stop bless then all!! The following morning I was seen by the senior doctor in charge and they explained everything again and said that just to be on the safe side they wanted me to have an MRI brain scan. In due course I was taken for the scan and then the senior doctor visited me again to give me the results of the scan, which thank goodness was normal. I was then told that as my symptoms had subsided that I was medically fit to be discharged. A big thank you to the whole team for looking after me.

Dear Ms Grant, I am pleased to read that you are recovering well, you have articulated your experience with A&E/ Clifford in a very positive light. I’m pleased to hear that staff were attentive and took the time to explain all the steps of your journey.
