Our daughter had to be delivered by emergency Caesarean section. I was 3 days past my due date and had started labouring naturally about 4 hours earlier. We arrived at the QMC and upon initial examination they struggled to find a heartbeat for my daughter. When they did, it was extremely low so we were rushed into theatre for immediate delivery under general anaesthetic. My daughter was then treated on the neonatal unit for 5 days for suspected brain damage due to lack of oxygen. Brain monitoring and an MRI scan showed that there were no obvious signs of damage to her brain and that she was likely to be a normal healthy child. My husband and I owe everything to the skilled doctors, midwives, nurses and surgeons involved in our care. Without their quick thinking, expertise and invaluable experience, our daughter might not be with us. They saved 3 lives that day, not just one. Thank you for everything.
