Our mum was admitted to Mearnskirk house (Millbrae Ward) when her illness was at a very late stage, and unfortunately after years of intensively looking after her through the early, middle and later stages of Alzheimer's disease in her own house between the family and a whole lot of home carers, she now had reached the stage where she needed more intensive care with regular medical input. Theresa and her team of nurses and auxiliary staff in Millbrae ward were extremely dedicated with mum's care and they done their very best getting her up and into the dining room when she was able and spent time giving her the best care possible. The hospital is spotlessly clean and the gardens and grounds are beautiful and peaceful. We got to spend one last birthday with our mum when she turned 85 on the last month to which we were so grateful. The kitchen staff who were also so nice to speak to had even made her a cake and flowers were also brought into mum's room to mark the occasion.

We would like to say a special thanks to Dr Whitton, the consultant at Mearnskirk and the Queen Elizabeth University, the doctors who attended mum there, , Theresa, Mel, Janet, Joyce, Liz and the other staff, who unfortunately we didn't get to know all their names, but they were all lovely to mum and to us. Mum spent her last 6 weeks in very comfortable surroundings and we were very grateful that even at the late stage her illness was at that she could still get to spend this extra precious time with her family who she still knew and loved right to the end of her illness.

Thank you for taking the time to post on Patient Opinion. I would like to share my condolences on the loss of your mum, this must be a difficult time for you and your family. I can tell from what you have shared here how much she meant to you and your family. The care given to your mum by all of the staff at Mearnskirk clearly gave you and your family comfort as well as providing your mum quality of life.

I will ensure that your kinds words are passed on to the staff at Mearnskirk. They will be glad to hear that the care they gave to your mum gave you and your family comfort.
