"Excellent experience with emergency C Section at St Johns"

About: St John's Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I went into labor 2 days before my scheduled c section date for my breech baby. I was really nervous about getting a c section and not having any choices about how my baby would be birthed. However the staff at St John's was absolutely wonderful. We arrived at hospital around 6am after calling to discuss pains I was having but we were unsure if they were labour pains. We were promptly taken into a room where the doctor came to confirm the baby was still breech and labour had started. From there everything continued to progress swiftly but calmly and with care. We gave the midwife our c section birth preferences and she quickly read through and agreed that most every on the list was achievable. She then briefed everyone in the theatre as well for any relevant parts (like requesting silence when the baby was born so she could hear the voices of my husband and I first).

Even though it was technically an emergency section I felt we were still able to have quite a bit of choice; including the surgeon asking which type of stitches I'd prefer, which was amazing as I actually did really want dis-solvable stitches. I was introduced to each staff member in the theatre and told what they would be doing.

I was still scared about having such a major surgery and combined with the emotion of looking forward to meeting our daughter but I feel I had the best birth experience and couldn't have asked for better. I just want to sent a HUGE thank you to all the staff that were on shift that morning as I think I was there just before hand-over and I'm sure they all must have been absolutely exhausted but they didn't show it one bit and on the contrary I felt I was in wonderful hands the whole time.

Dear Happy Mother 2016

Congratulations to you and your family on the birth of your new daughter.

Thank you very much for sharing this lovely feedback with us which l have shared with the maternity team at St John's Hospital. I was really pleased to hear how all the differrent members of the team were able to work together and with you and your husband so that you were able to have as much choice as possible at what must have been a very emotional and exciting time for you both.

Congratulaions and thank you again for your kind words.

Kind regards

Jeannette
