"The single room experience is very unsettling"

My second stay in 12 months - this time for a knee replacement operation.

The single room experience is very unsettling. The bed is facing a wall which has a white-board with a section for 'What Matters To Me' - four sections totally blank, which indicates the staff think there is nothing important enough about the patient to make a note of. The other thing on the wall is a clock. A patient is left to lie staring at time passing, or a blank board. There was a slit of window at the far end of the bed which showed a tiny piece of the carpark - nothing else.

Surely it isn't too difficult to provide some art work with lots of colours and movement. Something for a patient to concentrate on, finding the hidden tiger in a jungle? Or a child hiding at the beach? Even the hedgehog peeping from a group of Hostas.
