Well, I am so frustrated. After 2 days of futile attempts to get through to my doctors surgery at Greenhill Surgery in Lichfield, I was told that I could only make an appointment for the following day, and not 2 days in advance. If I have a busy day tomorrow and dont have all day to spend trying to get through, I will not get an appointment for Friday as well! This is unacceptable.
My husband has had similar experience. He works abroad and has given up on his diabetic checks as he can never get though to the surgery and by the time he does, there are no appointments.
Clearly more staff are needed.
Sorry to have a moan, but surely there is a better way to do this? Perhaps private gps are needed, so that people with money who dont have time for all this malarkey could just go private! I would most certainly be prepared to pay to fit appointments in around my business, and it would take some stress off the NHS, wouldnt it? Also, even though I have citizenship and my husband and I are both higher tax earners contributing to the economy, I do feel that as people not born in the UK, we should be paying something every time we go to the GP, even £2 would make a huge difference! The days of free for all should be gone, and only benefit the real children of this country, the families who have been paying tax here for at least a generation.
