About: Crosshouse Hospital / Geriatric Assessment

(as a relative),

My 96 year old gran who has been unwell for over a week and has not been out her bed was transferred back to her nursing home in the evening on a wheel chair by the Red Cross.

When she arrived at her NH questioned why she was in a chair and really drowsy. Red Cross were told she has been walking about the ward.

I contacted the ward and the nurse informed me that they were under pressure to get beds. So much for nurses being the patient advocate.

Dear Beds instead of people,

I am sad to hear your Gran has been so unwell and did not have a comfortable discharge/transfer. I'm sorry, it must have been distressing for your Gran, you and your family.

Without more information it is not clear if your Gran's discharge was premature or not. It certainly sounds as if communication could have been better so she got into her own bed on her return to the Nursing Home. We all like to get back into our bed when we are not well, I suspect at 96 years young, your ran would have appreciated it greatly too.
