"A pleasant experience considering i was at a..."

About: John Radcliffe Hospital / Accident and emergency

I'm a Malaysian citizen who was on a holiday in the UK when i became really sick. I happened to be in Oxford at the time, fully intending to play tourist when i had a severe stomach bug. When i finally reached breaking point (ie abt to pass out) after failed attempts to get meds from the local pharmacy or 2 different GP clinics who said i needed an appt before i could see a doctor (despite me looking like death itself), i was told to go to the nearest hospital which was John Radcliffe. The taxi took us to the A & E where i filled up a couple of forms and gave my passport details before i was attended to by a nurse then later, a doctor. Having visited numerous Malaysian public hospitals and private facilities and being partial to the latter due to service and attention, i was pleasantly surprised at the efficiency and attentiveness by the staff of the A & E department at this hospital. Within an hour of me arriving, i already had IV on with the necessary meds. The nurses, were brilliant. They were so kind and helpful and made sure i was comfortable and talked me through the process. They kept checking up on me as did the Doctor assigned to me who was so patient, calm and attentive. They kept tabs on me and explained all that i needed to know and what i needed to do upon leaving the hospital. They knew this was becoming a nightmare vacation for me but tried their best to comfort me and make me laugh. As a foreigner, this could have easily been the worst experience ever, but thanks to the impeccable service and care, i left feeling heaps better and feeling very grateful. I had a lovely vacation after that and will always remember the help that was extended to me when i felt so lost and sickly. A big thank you! p.s i was in the hosp on the 5th of Sept 2016.

Our sincere apologies for the delayed response to this. Thank you so much for taking the time to provide this feedback about your experience of our accident and emergency services. It's great to hear that you had such a positive experience in our A&E department, especially in terms of the quality of care provided and the kindness and attentiveness of our staff. It is lovely to know that you and you felt so well looked after during your 'nightmare' experience. It is great to hear that your holiday got back on track afterwards and you still had a lovely time. Your comments will be passed on to the A&E team. Thank you again.
