"Getting blood taken and ending up with a haematoma"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Pre Admission Assessment

(as the patient),

I am on medication for my skin and every month I need to get bloods taken. In early September, I got blood taken which resulted in my going to A&E as my arm has swollen up and I could hardly move my arm. I was in a lot of pain. They said I had a haematoma. Went to my GP the next day who put me on a course of antibiotics to stop infection. I have had to take two days off work as I was unable to drive. I still am unable to move my arm without a lot of pain. Having to take painkillers every 4 hours and anti sickness tablets. My arm is one big bruise. I can't believe this could happen from a simple blood test.

Dear Kara K

Thank you for posting your comments on Patient Experience.

I can clearly see that you are understandably upset, from your recent experience having your bloods taken in the Pre-assessment unit in Monklands. I would there greatly appreciate if you could contact me to allow me to be of assistance.
