My husband who has advanced Parkinson's was admitted to Lister suffering from Aspiration Pneumonia on 13th July.2 weeks later he fell and broke his hip on the 9th floor. A 2 1/2 day wait later his hip was replaced. Since then he was transferred to Herts & Essex Hospital to start a rehabilitation programme. 4 days later he was transferred to Queen Victoria Hospital at Welwyn to continue rehab.
During the afternoon a GP and I spoke and decided that the transfer had exhausted my husband and it was agreed that he would improve after a good rest.
That evening a nurse decided that my husband's blood pressure was high @ 165/82 high? Not and called for an ambulance to take him to Lister despite my protests.
A & E doctors were not happy and wanted to know why he was sent there.
He has had a few assessments, the specialist Parkinson's nurse has been very helpful.
7 weeks on my husband is worse than he was on 13th July, very weak, his diet has been changed from puréed to soft food from the main menu. He has Aspiration Pneumonia again and is being treated with
I.V. antibiotics. 7 weeks ago my husband was walking with a stick doing squats and calf stretches every day to keep himself as fit as possible. His weight has dropped alarmingly, his dementia has accelerated greatly and I am extremely worried about him and disappointed that his condition is so dire. As far as I know he has not been out of bed at all apart from briefly at Bishops Stortford. In his mind he can still walk and so he tries to get out of bed risking more fractures. As I cannot be at Lister except @ visiting times it is frustrating to find out what is being done to help my husband.
On Saturday 27th I asked to speak to a doctor, who told me that when they'd finished what they would find me to inform what is happening.
Sadly the doctor forgot.
The doctor was apologetic when they saw me leaving by which time I could not stay as I had a lift waiting for me.
It is all very stressful.
