"Motility studies"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / General Medicine (Wards 9-12)

(as the patient),

I was recently sent for tests to be carried out at hairmyres hospital. These where carried out in respiratory but it was not breathing tests. I had motility studies and a 24 hour test carried out I was told that the waiting list could be anything upto 4 months but I was given an appointment within a few weeks and was plesently surprised.

The test its self is not a present experience and uncomfortable but after the procedure was fully explained to me I understood why unfortunately they can not numb your nose or your throat because it would mean you would choke as they give you water and bread to test your function.

The test its self only lasted 15 min shorter than I thought it would be but the staff where all very good at there jobs they where all on the top of there game and worked well together seamlessly. The staff where all extreemly well trained and very nice and plesent and made a stressfull situation bareable

Michelle is the staff that done my test she was very patient with me and took everything at my pace she had a very comforting and caring aura about her she explained the procedure well and kept me at ease while doing so

Maureen who is the boss was there the chemistry between the staff is amazing she was able to bring some fun into an appointment I couldnt stop laughing. maureen was very plesent and although she was working on her own duties she was still able to keep an eye on my test and showed genuine intrest in my case

the clinical support worker was plesent and well manered and was able to have some 'banter' with the two girls aswell, the thing that made me laugh the most was maureen saying to the clinical support "right what am I" and he would give me this long title for her that was funny and clever they kept joking the would have to give michelle a special title as well

between the three of them they just made it all easy and calm

they are all very good at there jobs and work well as a team they have an abundance of enthusiasm for there job and a great energy about them

on th down side the room that the testing was done in I feel was too small with me and my partner in for the test and the three staff the equipment and the trollys everything felt crowded and I could see how some people may feel claustaphobic

the room is also right on the waiting area so there is no sence of privacy because you are aware that people are sitting right outside the door it just semed like they did not have enough room for everything that they need

when I was leaving from my test there was another patient in the waiting area who was returning from the day before who asked me how I got on and they shared that they too where nervous going into the test but left feeling great becasue of the atmosphere and calming and at the same time mad (in a good way) influance of the staff

I can not thank the team enough as I am aware there is a back log in reports and I was asked to phone if I get a follow up appointment that way they can see if my report is done so it is ready in time for my appointment the staff made me feel that it was easy to contact them and talk to them

to the team for all your help I can only give you my greatest thanks

Dear Mr Mister,

Thank you for highlighting our team and their person centered care during your test examination. I will pass your kind comments to Maureen and her team which I'm sure they will be delighted to hear.

With regards to the location of the test area, we have had similar comments regarding privacy and I have asked our Service manager to review the location to see if we can improve upon this aspect.

Unfortunately this may not be a quick resolution however I want you to know that your feedback and comments are important and help us to shape the service for all patients, both present and future.

Kind Regards

Gwen
