"Excellent care at QEUH, Glasgow for spinal surgery"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow

(as the patient),

I have just undergone a spinal lumbar discectomy at the QEUH, and cannot fault the treatment, or any aspect of my care from Same Day Admissions Unit to ward 10B.

Everyone I have met has been professional and respectful, while being friendly and helpful. I have never laughed as much while being admitted for an operation...those little things make such a difference to the overall experience and put the patient in such a good frame of mind.

Thank you D from SDAU - what a star. A special mention to the Consultant Anaesthetist (BMc) and Physician's Assistant in Anaesthesia (AS) who looked after me yesterday - thank you for your kindness and compassion. I couldn't have asked to be put to sleep by a better team, and woken up again of course!

Ward 10B staff have been excellent too, always ensuring everyone's wellbeing and comfort with cheery smiles. A credit to the NHS, all of you. You've actually made this hospital stay pleasant, which I didn't think was possible.

Too much is written in the media about our NHS hospitals being places of horror and ill treatment, but you very seldom get to hear from the many grateful happy patients. People all too often like to complain when things go wrong, but very seldom give praise when things go well.

Thank you for creating this place for positive feedback to be given, so public, bosses and staff can see for themselves the great job they are doing, every single day.

Well done and a massive thank you to you all. I'll be back in a couple of months for my spinal fusion so I'll be seeing you all again!

I work in a small team within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Part of the team’s role is to support patients and carers through our feedback systems which will help to improve the services we provide. On Patient Opinion, I support Lorna Gray, Patient Experience Public Involvement Project Manager, and Niall McGrogan, Head of Patient Experience Public Involvement.

Dear SillyKat

Thank you for taking the time to post on Patient Opinion. Firstly, I am pleased to read that your operation went well. Secondly, it is lovely to read such positive feedback about the way in which our staff provided care and how that made a difference. As you say, it is the little things that make such a difference and we expect all of our patients to be treated with kindness and compassion.

I will make sure that your feedback is shared with our staff in the Same Day Admissions Unit and Ward 10B. They will be delighted to receive your feedback.

I hope you are now recovering well.

Best wishes
Lisa
