I am a registered childminder and regularly attend the 'Chilwell Surestart' in Nottingham. The centre staff are very friendly and the facilities and activities provided for early years. Children indoors are always well thought out and fantastic. However, the outside 'garden/play' area lets the centre down.
- during a warm, sunny day the outside are has no shade at all to protect parents, staff and more importantly the children. The slide gets that hot that it would burn a young child if they went down if wearing shorts.
- Secondly, a gate needs to be placed across the side of the outside garden. As a childcare provider looking after multiple children, the area behind the side of the building provide a blind spot where you cannot see the children and it is used as a bit of a dumping ground. A gate would keep the children safe and in view.
