"Joint School - an example of what the NHS does well"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a carer),

My husband recently attended the Joint School in anticipation of a hip replacement. This was a 3-hour information session with presentations from a Consultant, Anesthetist, Physiotherapists, Orthopedic Nurses and Occupational Therapists.

The information was presented clearly and with a focus on informing the patient of their anticipated journey. This session should be applauded as it’s on the patient level and puts the patients concerns and questions as the priority.

The session was not rushed and every patient and “coach” was as important as the next. There was plenty of time for questions and has made the experience of coming into hospital for a hip replacement much more informed and we now know exactly what to expect when we arrive for the operation.

This information session is an example of what the NHS does well and should be applauded and recognised as putting the patient first.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.
