"Life changing experience of counselling at Ealing IAPT"

About: Ealing IAPT

(as the patient),

I referred myself to IAPT last year due to increased anxiety, distress and feeling I wasn't coping emotionally. I hadn't found my previous experience there, with CBT, very useful and was very happy with my second experience. It has made a huge difference to my understanding, thinking and well being.

My counsellor was very skilled and able to try different ways of looking at myself, my thoughts, feelings and experiences using intellectual type discussions and learning, body work, listening, empathy and created a climate where I could explore issues from my childhood that I had not been able to access in previous experiences of therapy or in my training as a counsellor. He was amazing.

This experience has helped me so much, in my understanding of my childhood and to not have the same feelings of being a victim. I am stronger and happier. I shall never forget this experience with him, it has been life changing.

Response from Josef Landsberg, Clinical Lead IAPT, West London NHS Trust

Dear Eileen

It is very encouraging to read stories like these. Thank you for taking the time and sharing your experience with IAPT. Although you found CBT helpful it sounds as if the counselling approach helped enormously in exploring and understanding of your childhood resulting you you feeling stronger and happier.

I am sure that many people will identify with what you have written here and I will make sure the team gets this lovely feedback.

Regards, Josef

Thank you, it was an exceptional experience for me.

I'd just like to add to you was that this particular counsellor was able to offer me a range of ways of exploring my anxieties matched to me if that makes sense?
