My daughter has been in psychiatric hospitals on several occasions - due for discharge next week. During this current admittance she was advised that her father has a terminal illness- understandably she had a set back in her recovery ....during one of her outings with myself she became very angry and stated kicking a pillar outside of the supermarket we were about to enter- I immediately brought her back to the hospital and asked for a room aside from the main lounge where she was able to express herself - screaming - shouting and then crying - which seemed to calm her ....
I asked the staff nurse if she could do this on a regular basis instead of being sedated ..... Her reply was we don't have the facility. Surely in the 21st century patients should be allowed to express their emotions without being pharmaceutically coshed!
