I visited BPAS Richmond for a surgical termination following CVS confirming a featal abnormality. I was worried and scared about people judging me-because I'm young. I have a daughter of 18months, myself and my partner own our own home and we were devastated with the news our baby had an abnormality. I felt honoured to not have to be in a waiting room where people were having unwanted pregnancies terminated, I was not in this catagory and aborting my baby was the last thing I wanted to be doing. I was seen quickly for my blood pressure and weight to be taken. But then had to wait a further 2 hours to be seen by a nurse. They then said I needed tablets to soften my cervix. This led to me having to wait for another 3 hours. This elongated the day unnecessarily and if I'd have been given those tablets upon my arrival at 8AM I could of had the procedure 11 instead of 210 when I finally did go down to theatre. The nurses were respectful and kind to me. My criticism is that I could hear the nurses talking to other patients in a "private room", I did tell them and they said they weren't aware. Once upstairs- I could still hear confidential information being discussed. One of the nurses had a baby born in the family that morning- whilst I'm pleased for her, I didn't want to hear those discussions. I also heard a dad speaking to a nurse about getting the "tissue" back and how to "contact a funeral director" but that "BPAS could look after the tissue for up to 3 months". I do express how kind everyone was and I felt fully respected that I was only there because of an abnormality. Confidentiality needs looking into and the managers need to reassess their waiting times/ waiting process.
"Well respected but a long wait"
