My Gran was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital via her GP as she was declining at home. My Gran was 97 and had a level of cognitive impairment. In the GP assessment unit staff were friendly and kind and keen to spend time talking with my Gran and the family to find out exactly what concerns we had.
From the assessment unit Gran was moved to ward 8A. I cannot praise the staff here highly enough. From the moment she was moved to the ward all the staff were brilliant. My Gran was really sleepy the whole time and the ward had completely open visiting which meant the family could go up and help try and encourage Gran to eat.
Student Nurses, auxiliary nurses and staff nurses all introduced themselves and had a kind word to say when we visited. The senior nurses on the ward sought the family out to give progress unpdates which was really good as you didn't feel like you had to go looking for someone to get an update.
My Gran became more unwell during her short stay and passed away six days after admission. On the day, staff quickly called the family and then were so caring and compassionate, looking after us and Gran in her final hours. The consultant and ward Drs made themselves available for any questions and explained to us what was going on.
My Gran died peacefully and was treated with dignity and respect throughout her stay in the hospital. The whole team were amazing and so caring and respectful, from the consultant to the student nurses and my whole family were grateful for this.
"The whole team were amazing"
