I'm terrified of hospitals so you can imagine how I felt on admission to D5. I was given a bed and chair in a 6 bed area. My name and surgeons name already on the white board behind my bed. First to visit me was a nurse to go over the pre-op details, then the surgeon. They confirmed I was 3rd on their list. They briefly went over what would happen. Then a visit from the anaesthetist and another surgical doctor. I walked down to theatre just after lunch time with my pillow tucked under my arm. A few more questions to complete paper work before I was wheeled into the theatre annex. The canular went in and the next thing I knew I was in recovery. Then back to the ward for tea and toast. The surgeon popped in to tell me the op went as planned . I was a bit groggy for a while but I was back home early evening. All the staff from nursing team to surgical team treated me well. Even the ward cleaner was nice. You hear so much bad press for the NHS but when you need it you find its there and working fine. I was treated well within the estimated waiting time from referral. So big thanks from me to all the staff on short stay surgical and D5.
