"I cannot thank the staff enough for everything"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a relative),

My Papa was admitted into Wishaw General after breaking his hip. He was admitted into Ward 15 awaiting an operation and stayed there for 4 days, the staff within the ward were extremely helpful and patient. At this point my Papa was affected with delirium and was extremely confused, hallucinating and to a point upset.

On the Monday I received a phone call to inform me that my Papa had been moved to ward 12. Following the phone call and apprehensive about this move as my Papa was affected with delirium we made our way to Ward 12, where we were met with a staff team who were extremely supportive to both my Papa and our family. My Papa has been in this ward for a number of weeks and I can honestly say it has been the most positive experience my Papa and my family have ever had in hospital, every day the staff have been kind, friendly, supportive, informative and always there to reassure our fears, although they were rushed off their feet. Being so close to my Papa this is something all staff members could relate to, knowing he is my "best pal" and spent with me reassuring and comforting my worries and fears. Everyday going in my Papa told me a positive story of how he had a good chat with a member of staff, how they were able to spend a little extra time with him although they were busy and most importantly how they treated my Papa with a great deal of care, respect and made him laugh.

The way my Papa had described his experience is that "It's nice to know there are people in the world that show so much care, and this is an experience that I will always be grateful for and never forget. "

I cannot thank the staff enough for everything they have done for my Papa and my family. It is to easy for people to comment on and talk about complaints and not always recognise and acknowledge the positives. In my opinion the positives are just, if not more important to acknowledge.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Karen, Joanna, Campbell, Tamara, Andrea, Angela, Gail, Mary, Margaret, Fiona, Louise, Helen, David and Caroline. Apologies if I have forgotten anyone. They have all been truly outstanding and feel it is important for them to be recognised for the work they do.

Thank you!

Dear Extremely Concerned

Thank you for taking time to post your very kind comments regarding staff in wards 15 and 12, it was very much appreciated.

I was encouraged to read that ward 12 took time to get to know what was important to your Papa and your family and ensured that they utilised this when spending time with him and reassuring yourselves. In doing this the staff were able to create a very positive experience from your Papa's stay in hospital.

I wish your Papa continued good health and best wishes to you and your family

Regards

Janice
