Sadly, we were faced with the decision of ending a much wanted pregnancy as our baby was very poorly.
Surgical termination was not offered by my hospital as I was over 14 weeks pregnant.
I could not face the thought of labour and delivery.
I found that BPAS have a dedicated service for Foetal anomalies and contacted them on their dedicated helpline specifically for circumstances similar to my own.
I had a telephone consultation with a midwife who was very kind and understanding and as I had scans and reports from my consultant, I was able to book my procedure over the telephone.
I attended the clinic in Doncaster with my partner and after a short wait in a small waiting room with other ladies we were taken to a private room.
This was something I really appreciated, as I was worried that being around ladies ending unwanted pregnancies would be very upsetting.
It also meant that my husband was able to stay with me for the whole time (except during the surgery).
Obviously there were aspects of the procedure that were not pleasant but every member of staff did their best to put me at ease.
I did not experience any unprofessional or condescending behaviour from any member of staff and felt that they did their very best to help me and their other visitors.
I was very grateful that the clinic exists and gave me an option that wasn't available to me in an NHS hospital.
Whilst I wouldn't wish my experience on anyone, if you are facing a similar decision, I can't fault BPAS in any way.
