We left our 20 week scan quite deflated having been told our son may be born with a cleft lip. He was born at 40 weeks with a unilateral complete cleft lip and palate. At 6 months he underwent a repair for both, with nasal reconstruction. Having met two consultants prior to surgery, we met a new surgeon on operation day. Mr Grant performed the procedure, and visited us frequently in the days that followed. We also had visits from Mr Dwyer. Both surgeons were brilliant.
Our son made a great recovery with excellent results. I can't fault the staff at Queens Medical Centre. The whole experience was a huge challenge for us as parents, however the care our son received in hospital was first class and a credit to the NHS. I hope our experience gives comfort to anxious parents who are going through the same thing.
"Cleft lip and palate repair."
