"Waited hours for blood to arrive at Rotherham"

About: Rotherham Hospital

(as the patient),

I was treated on Sitwell Ward at Rotherham District General with a blood transfusion due to chemo for metastatic prostate cancer. I was not happy that I had to be in for 8am to have blood taken for a cross-match and cannula fitted before 10am. However, the blood did not arrive until 4pm, I could have stayed at home and gone in at 12noon!

The staff on Sitwell ward need to be thanked though.

Thank you for posting your opinion on the site. We ask patients to come in early in order to cross match bloods & provide transfusions early in the day. Unfortunately in your case, this did not happen. I can only apologise for the delay. If you wish to discuss this in more detail please do not hesitate to contact the hospital on 304596 & ask for the Matron who will be happy to speak to you about your experience.
