"Rampton Hospital, Peaks Unit, Involvement Group"

LAUNCH OF THE INVOLVEMENT GROUP AT THE PEAKS,

RAMPTON HOSPITAL

Wednesday the 25th of May saw a meeting of the Involvement group at the Peaks from 10am to 12 noon. It was attended by several staff and patients and a guest speaker Louise Randall (Quality improvement lead: Forensic services) who talked about the fifteen step challenge.

There was a discussion around the topic of “blanket restrictions”.

Feedback was taken from “the wards” and some discussion about taking issues to the patient council meeting.

After a break (with refreshments! ) there were suggestions for inviting guest speakers to up-coming meetings.

Events planning was discussed and the patients presented a leaflet that they

Had been working on entitled Meaningful Activity Plan, or MAP for short.

This is “a strengths-based approach to support recovery, and is therefore premised on the idea that we need to create opportunities for social interaction, in order to help ourselves on that journey. We are all attempting to secure some kind of valued outcome in our lives.

Negative behaviours result when individuals lack the internal and external resources necessary to satisfy their values using pro-social means.

Regular engagement in social activities can have positive impacts on psychological functioning, healthy lifestyles, overall happiness and builds good therapeutic relationships with staff and other patients.

It should be noted that MAP is ultimately a framework for healthy human functioning. ” (quote from MAP leaflet. )

The activities suggested included Gym, Kick-about on the astro-turf

Mindful walk around in the evening. Non-stop cricket or rounders,

Film night, volleyball and Board games night / bingo.

The Involvement Volunteers from the Rosewood Centre asked for some patient feedback for this Patient Opinion Posting:

POSITIVE:

1. Having a guest speaker.

2. We all feel equally valued, there is no hierarchy and we feel listened to.

3. The MAP leafet

Things we could do better:

1. Meetings could be advertised better

2. Membership of the Patients council need to be members of the Involvement Group.

3. One of the wards needs to prioritise it’s focus on community meetings.

We are all looking forward to the next Involvement Meeting and we invite new patient members to attend.
