"My daughters barium swallow X-Ray appointment"

About: Victoria Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My 12 year old daughter is having stomach troubles and is under the paediatrician at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

Part of her treatment was tests and we recently attended the X-Ray department at the VHK. When we arrived at the department it was very busy and many people were in the waiting room, but were being taken quickly and there seemed to be a good flow of people being seen to and then leaving.

We didn't have to wait much longer than our scheduled appointment time of 10am and the X-ray nurse who attended to my daughter was very pleasant and friendly. She made my daughter feel at ease and then we met the Radiologist who was preparing the barium meal. Everything was explained very thoroughly and in no time at all the consultant came in and a student who both seemed very nice.

All along they asked my daughter if she was okay and I was treated with respect and allowed to stay and watch the procedure. Everything seemed to go as planned and before long it was explained to us her results and what would happen next.

I wanted to leave my feedback as sometimes I think staff don't get the recognition they deserve and even though the department was very busy my daughter was given time to make sure she was comfortable and not rushed. Thank you, much appreciated!

Dear Mrs Wood

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback following your daughter's hospital appointment. The care and attention you describe is exactly what we aim to achieve for every patient every time and at 12 years old it is hugely important that we get the fundamentals around communincation and information sharing spot on. I will gladly share your post with the staff in the Radiology Deparmtent and with the Management Team who will greatly appreciate your comments.

Thank you once again for taking the time to give us your feedback, it is very much appreciated.

Regards

Louise Ewing
