"Standards at Monklands General Hospital Airdrie"

About: University Hospital Monklands

(as a relative),

I visited an elderly relative today. The first three hand sanitation containers were empty at the entrance to Ward 21. My relative is experiencing incontinence as a result of their illness and did not feel they had been spoken to in a compassionate or kind manner when Being cleaned. A patient nearby struggled to breathe for an hour before anyone noticed and sat them up to relieve congestion. The visitor toilets were filthy with soiled toilet paper strewn on the floor. This was reported twice over the course of our 2 hour visit. I last visited the hospital ten years ago when my mother died there of a hospital acquired infection that did not respond to treatment. I was really concerened about what I witnessed today. It doesn't seem like much has changed in that time. You need to do much better than this in your care of the elderly. Compassion and cleanliness surely are the basis of all great care.

Dear Cream Tea

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience of Monklands Hospital, which has been far from satisfactory. Please be assured these are not the standards we aspire to. Your posting will be shared with the ward staff and hotel services with regards to the visitors toilets.

It is very important that we learn from patient and relative feedback, and I would be grateful if you could contact Eileen Clarke, Senior Nurse for ward 21 on 01236 713288 to discuss your concerns in greater detail.

Regards

Ruth

Update posted by Cream Tea (a relative)

I cannot contact the ward sister at the moment as I am out of the country but will be keeping in touch with other visitors to check how things are going so someone else from the family may be in touch.
