What I liked
The auxillary and catering staff were very kind.
What could be improved
Almost everything.
Anything else?
After a stroke earlier this month my mum was admitted to Brearley 3 at the NGH. Communication between us (her family) and nursing staff and doctors has been nil. We have to find a specific time and request a chat with a professional - they never seek us out.
At the end of her second week there they told us she was making progress. The following day she suffered a fall on the ward and banged her head. Even now we don't know how this could have happened. We haven't seen her walk and there are railings on the bed. She is
slowly wasting away and no one seems to be aware of how depressed she is apart from her family.
In the evenings there is one particular nurse whom is sullen and unapproachable. This makes our job harder, dealing with a sick mother and unapproachable staff is very stressful.
To top it all off the visiting hours are very rigid and inconvenient for those of us with children. No morning visits are allowed. When a family member has been in hospital for over a month it isn't possible to visit every evening with a family in tow (children aren't allowed anyway) - so why aren't the mornings available? It has been a dreadful experience and we can't wait to get her home.
