I accompanied my daughter when she needed to attend LRI last month following a seizure. We initially contacted the 111 helpline for advice and after a professional assessment we were told a clinician would call us back. This happened within 10 minutes. We were given an appointment to attend clinic 4 at 4.45am. Within 10 minutes of arrival we were seen by a GP who again was professional and listened offering reassurance before referring us to A&E.
Once in the department my daughter was immediately assessed, bloods taken and she was treated expertly and respectfully by 2 nurses. Everything was again clearly explained at every stage and she waited to see a Dr.
Within an hour she was seen by a Dr who following assessment and checking of bloods liaised with a consultant to arrange for my daughter to be seen in a clinic that morning for a more in depth follow up outside of the emergency setting.
As we had a 2 hour wait for the clinic appointment we visited the restaurant for breakfast where we were served by cheerful staff and enjoyed a delicious and reasonably priced cooked breakfast.
As we then waited for the clinic appointment reception staff and Drs checked several times to make sure we were ok, in the right place and reassured us we were not forgotten.
The consultant again was professional and caring took time to consult with others and follow up previous test results before giving again a clear plan of action and a timescale for us to be contacted with relvant phone numbers should we have a problem. We left feeling well cared for and confident everything was being done and we had been listened to.
We had been home a couple of hours when we received a call to say after further discussions it had been decided to start my daughter on medication and a script was on a ward for us to collect and a Neurology appointment brought forward
Our experience in pharmacy was also a good one where everything about the medication was explained clearly and patiently as it was quite complicated.
An amazing team who really took care of both of us Thank You all. Sorry this is so long but it recognises a large team.
"An excellent and positive team approach"
