"Induction Pressure at Pindersfield Wakefield April 2016"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital / Maternity care

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter went into Pindersfield Maternity Unit for Monitoring when she was 12 days overdue based on scan dates and 8 days overdue based on her own dates. When she turned down the option to have an induction that day the response from the Registrar was: - "How are you going to feel if and when your baby is born dead. " I consider this totally inappropriate pressure. Others call it bullying. Some call this nothing short of abuse.

According to an AIMS volunteer who does a lot of campaigning in the Wakefield area regarding Birth Experiences. This sort of pressure to accept a cascade of medicalisation is not at all uncommon in the Maternity Unit at Pindersfield.

An isolated incident of this sort is one thing, when it appears to reflects the Hospital Policy it needs to be changed.

Two days later my daughter had the Home Water Birth she had planned, with two Community Midwives in attendance. Active Labour Started about 10.30 am Second stage recorded as 3 mins. Birth of a healthy boy 7lb 9oz at 1 pm.

The induction of her first son at Pinderfields resulted in 12 days of Hospitalization for both mother and baby.
