Have just come out of A&E after waiting 8 hours just to have bloods taken. I passed out five times over the last 24 hours to be told this morning at my local surgery by a Locum GP that it was "all in my head".
Ambulance took me to the local hospital GWH and was told by a nurse (I'd already been there for an hour and a half with not even obs taken) to go to the urgent care unit instead of a&e. I refused as I'd already been to the gp that morning and they did nothing. Nurse was very rude and unsympathetic, undermining why I'd been in there. the place was jam packed full of people who'd previously come in with an ambulance and had suspected heart attacks, and were made to wait on a stiff chair in the waiting room with 20 other people. One poor elderly person had been waiting there for 6 hours before even being seen by a nurse! Another had an obvious broken leg and had been stuffed in a wheelchair with no support for her leg, and had to wait 9 hours for an xray.
I think this hospital is too small for the high demand of Swindon emergencies and desperately needs more space and extra staff.
