"All I want to know is, why was the operation performed?"

I have found that when things go wrong at the Rotherham Foundation Trust, the process of raising a complaint does not seem to be followed.

Firstly you have the patient experience team who are supposed to be your first point of contact if you make a complaint. My experience was that they seemed to back the doctors and nurses. I would like to ask what support should they be giving? I found their support was not fit for purpose.

My whole life was turned up side down when I had a cataract operation which resulted in the incorrect lens being inserted in my eye. This has left me now unable to work, and registered as blind. This is bad enough for anyone to come to terms with, but more importantly I have seen my opticians record that show my eye sight had no changes to it, and was stable for the last ten years I was still able to see 6/9 distance, which is good enough to drive and had very good near vision which enabled me to see very close up to do my job as a engineer, I had good N/5 close vision. The hospital did its own test on my eyes just prior to the operation with also backed up that I had no changes to my vision.

I was born with very small cataract that have never caused me any vision problems. so I have asked every one at the hospital to give me a straight answer to my question:

Why did the hospital do the operation, if I didn't need it?

The doctors who did the operation are bound by their code of conduct set by the GMC to tell me the truth. But I feel that they hid behind the patient experience team, and would not answer the question.

Instead of being supported by the hospital, I instead I was refused treatment and told to go away. Which goes totally against the NHS constitution, no lessons seem to have been learnt at all.

instead of showing me some dignity and respect and being open and transparent, the hospital keeps and telling me to seek legal advice. I would like to ask all the people who have dealt with me, what price would you put on your eye sight? the behaviour and the manner I have been treated by the hospital leaves a lot of questions that need to be answered.

All I am asking for is that I am given the truth and treated with respect. As I am writing this I fell my whole life is falling apart, I little bit of compassion and truth is all I ever wanted.
