What I liked
I was brought into RLI 23rd Dec 2009 with a suspected DVT after a C section in Dec, It turned out I do indeed have a DVT and it is rather big from my stomach to the middle of my thigh, my leg swelled to three times the size of my normal one, I was in intense pain, very emotional because my father died at the same age with the same problem, I didnt want to leave my newborn etc. The Unit I initially went to saw me instantly, they administered what I needed and arranged for me to go back to the maternity ward 17 for further care and so I could stay with my baby. The staff on there were a godsend, they are all amazing people from the cleaners, the auxilliarys, midwives, consultants, porters, all of them (sorry if I have forgotten any) I stayed 3 weeks and was made immensely comfortable and everyone helped me out with dignity, especially in embarrasing times like showering, and suchlike. They figured my sense of humour and helped pick up my mood as well as care for my illness. I also suffer from a severe food allergy, the ward staff were vigilent with my foods, including having to argue with the kitchen who had a certain member of staff who thought it was ok to leave me without food as it was new year and they 'just didnt have anything' the midwife demanded that I had to eat, and a salad appeared rather promptly. the midwife went out of her way to do this and any of the staff seemed to be the same. Nothing was to much to ask and they always offered to do as much for me as they could. Wonderful people who made a difficult stay over a difficult time (xmas/new year) so much easier.
What could be improved
Nothing on the ward could be improved on as I would give A ***** all the way in every area, but the kitchen need to shake themselves up, and that particular member of kitchen staff needs removing, there is something seriously wrong with a hospital kitchen not making proper provisions for a patient with a severe nut allergy!
Anything else?
The staff on Ward 17 rule !!! :)))
