I received a colonoscopy today at the West Wing Endoscopy Unit at Charing Cross. All of the preliminary booking information was sent out and questions answered when I called - such as anaesthetic procedure options, the staff involved in the procedure etc.
Both the nurses and the Consultant performing the procedure were kind, friendly and patient.
I had a lot of questions and concerns before the procedure about pain relief/sedative options and was able to talk them through with the nurse and the consultant who was doing the procedure and come to an agreed procedural plan of pain relief without sedation.
Even though I did not receive sedation, the Consultant was very careful and considerate to achieve minimal discomfort throughout. They also talked me through the whole process as seen on the screen.
The nurses fully explained the results and treatment plan going forward. The whole team worked together to make the procedure as pleasant and reassuring as possible. The hospital also provided gown, dignity shorts and slippers, and the environment was clean and comfortable.
