Went to A&E with my 28yr old son who had a sudden mental breakdown at home and self harmed nothing like this has ever happened to us before..
We waited over approx 7 hrs to see a mental health team, initial wounds were glued ..but we was not impressed by the services given to my son who was so obviously stressed and needing attention for mental health care.
My son wanting help agreed to admit himself into the caludon center, we were assured he would be well looked after and cared for.. The next morning My son managed to hurt himself very badly while under the care of mental health team, they had to take him back to the A&E for treatment of the new wounds..
When we arrived at A&E he had been moved to a side room and had one person watching him, he was waiting for hours to getting more stressed .. He was transferred to a ward, again with one carer ( who told us there should be 2 carers as my son was high risk ) he explained his shift ends at 7. 30 pm be started at 7 am ..., his relief carer arrived after 8pm, she also said all the males staff refused to come over, I had to explain to her my son s reasons for being in A&E as there was no handover notes or verbal between the swapping carers, the new carer also said that my son is high risk and there should be 2 people watching him.
My son was eventually signed into to a secure unit at the caludon centre and where he self harmed again... I don't believe he was given the treatment, care or attention he needed, he escaped twice as he was high risk of suicide /self harm.. his 2nd lot of wounds were not stitched up ( should have been 2 ppl with him ), so from sat morning to Tuesday evening - still not stitched up his gapping wounds .. why? ?
I feel like I have been fobbed off with excuses from waiting on 'surgeon', to there's a'virus on the ward' to it being my sons fault as he is too stressed out' .. I kid you not im am horrified at what we have seen and are still going through, I am afraid I will have to make a formal complaint. this is just a nightmare for us.
