"Chaos from start to finish"

About: Southampton General Hospital

My confidence eroded rapidly from the minute I arrived in the chaotic car park to the time I left the hospital - not having had the nerve root block injection for which I went.

My overall impression of the Neurological Centre was one of seediness, untidiness and disorganisation.

Signage was extremely bad both in and outside the hospital and staff of any kind were few and far between.

It was only after making my own enquiries that I discovered my treatment would be delayed by at least an hour and since, as the afternoon had progressed, I had felt my remaining confidence swiftly ebbing away, it was at this point I became finally bereft of its last shred. In the face of such dilapidated, under-staffed and chaotic conditions, I was unwilling to allow my treatment to take place and informed a nurse that I was leaving. Since I did not feel it appropriate to air the full extent of my grievances at that time, I made the excuse that I was unable to wait for the hour-long delay.

This has left me in a very difficult position as this hospital is the only one in my area with a neuro unit and I have no wish to return there although I am still very much in need of relief from chronic pain.
