I requested a referral to Moorfields Eye Hospital in London to remedy my failing eyesight. The response from my GP was "we do not refer patients with eye condition to hospital, you must see an optician".
I have no knowledge of the protocol of referrals, if there is one, but I understand there is a provision in the NHS England Constitution for a patient to have a legal right to a referral of choice.
