"Words cannot express our thanks"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

Thankyou seems such a little word to say after the staff in Resus, consultant endoscopist, SLT5 in anaesthetics, theatre staff and ward staff on 304/305 over last Saturday night into Sunday morning, worked hard and efficiently together to save my father in law.

The care he received and continues to receive in Derby has been exemplary. He was admitted from another local hospital on late Saturday evening in a very poorly state, but the staff in resus were quite frankly amazing and acted swiftly with amazing teamwork to save him.

We were kept informed all the way and our staff nurse in resus took great care of all of us, they went the extra mile to ensure they worked with us to provide amazing holistic care for our father. Their active listening ensured he was as comfortable as possible, even a member of domestic staff went to fetch an extra pillow to help him be more comfortable. The A/E doctor was a credit to your trust, they ensured that the vital drugs and treatment were given swiftly, explaining the plan and contacting the consultant endoscopist who came in really quickly and liaised with the anaesthetist and theatre to get the help they needed to save him.

The anaesthetist on duty that night was lovely and explained everything and consulted their consultant colleague who came in too. Our lovely staff nurse then ensured we were ok, settled us into the relatives room with hot drinks and biscuits and offered blankets and pillows whilst we waited for news. They then escorted us up to the admitting ward 304 to wait for our father. We were met by the HCA on 304 who settled us into the day room. Again we were offered drinks, by this time it was around 4 am. We were able to see our father and settle him in before we went home after a very difficult 18 hours. My father in law was then moved to 305 the next day as it was a more suitable ward for his care. The staff on this ward have been lovely and are continuing to take care of him.

I am sorry that I have not remembered names but it was a really distressing time. All staff we came into contact with introduced themselves, were kind, smiling and helpful and clearly worked together at every stage, they are all amazing people and are a credit to your hospital.

Thank you so very very much for all that is being done for our father.

Good Morning

It was very kind of you to take the time to write to the hospital; I am pleased to hear that you had a positive experience and that you wish to express your grateful thanks to the staff in the A+E Department and Wards 304/305.

I hope your father-in-law is recovering well, and thank you again for your kind words which we will share with all the staff mentioned in the different work areas.
