Our dad was admitted to ward 4D following a stroke earlier this year. The care and compassion offered by all levels of staff was outstanding. We were kept fully informed and approached by staff and updated at every visit. This is in stark contrast to our experience whilst our terminally ill mum was a patient on this ward 6 years ago, when it was difficult to obtain information and had to constantly chase staff down. There has been huge improvements across the board, from communication to extended visiting hours. We, as a family, felt respected, listened to and part of the decision making process.
Sadly our dad was not able to recover from the stroke and subsequent aspiration and died later in the month, despite the best efforts of medical and nursing staff. He was treated with dignity and respect at all times, even down to having had his hair tidied up and being fresh shaven on the day he died. That would have mattered to him as it did to us. So thank you to all staff on this extremely busy ward.
