I had a colonoscopy a few weeks ago and virtually echo the sentiments of a previous review. The preceding "clear out" was probably the worst part (I had the quick version, only starting the day before), but more of nuisance value than anything. There was a thorough briefing before the procedure from a nurse who clearly knew their subject inside out (so to speak) and the procedure was carried out by a great team who managed to ease ones natural nervousness but always very professional, with consultant and assistant and the nurse continuously monitoring me. I opted for the gas-type sedation (recommended - you have control, and it wears off pretty well immediately afterwards).
Discomfort, for me at least, was no worse than a bout of flatulence.
Afterwards I spent some time in the recovery area (with tea and biscuits !) although actually I felt I could have walked out pretty well straight away. Would it have been any better in a private hospital ? I rather doubt it. Full marks to all
