I was admitted to Mercer Ward late at night disoriented and confused.
The night staff were kind and gentle, even when I got out of bed and wandered about!
My husbands concerns were listened to and he was reassured.
The next morning I was aware of my surroundings but remained confused and wandering.
The staff made sure I was safe and did their best to help me as I had not sleep for approximately thirty six hours!
My daughter was allowed to visit which helped and she managed to calm me and get me to rest.
I experienced pain and was given good pain relief quickly.
I remained on Mercer Ward for six days.
The Consultant I saw was charming and gave us confidence that they were going to try a number a tests to try and resolve the problem.
I was lucid by lunchtime, so could communicate with the staff.
I indeed had numerous and varied tests over my stay, all off which were carried out carefully and efficiently.
During my stay I developed an unrelated virus, my temperature spiked and I felt quite unwell!
I was given IV fluids and allowed to rest!
A junior Dr came to explain the treatment, and why antibiotics don't help viruses.
The fast response to this unrelated episode allowed me feeling well enough to go home the next day to continue my recovery.
I have recent been asked to stop the opioids I was taking for the relief of fibromyalgia pain.
The alternative given IV was excellent, but of course I could not go home on IV drugs.
A pharmacist was consulted and within half an hour, I was being to be pain free.
The new drug I was taking was effective, this was not taken for granted, the pharmacist came to check as soon as they felt that the drug should have been taking effect.
Generally the communication was excellent, the neurologist I have been seeing visited me, they would not have known I was an in patient if they had not been told.
Pleasant staff and well done the kitchen staff as I am gluten and lactose free. Not easy!
Thankyou Mercer ward!
