After being admitted by Grimsby A&E department on 19th November 2015 I was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary, Ward 4 after an MRI scan for emergency spinal surgery the following day.
The Grimsby A&E Neurologist was fantastic, they stayed after their shift had finished to give me the bad news and even spoke to my friend to explain as I was terrified and shocked after they told me an ambulance would be here in just 20 minutes to transport me.
I had lost sensation in my left leg and had other associated problems.
I wish I could mention their name! Thank you!
East Midlands Ambulance Crew made me forget my nerves as was fun and jolly. Thank you!
On arrival at Hull Royal Infirmary I was welcomed by the wonderful and happy nurses who were waiting for me and just going home after their shift. Thank you!
A Neurosurgeon was quick to come in to see me, who was very tired and yawning (I was told later that they had been on a very long shift by the nurse), they were extremely professional and explained the procedure I was to have, they explained quite firmly to myself and my friend that the surgery was to SAVE my leg/bladder/bowel from paralysis and that it would not improve my pre-existing long term degenerative spinal condition (although, it slightly HAS!) :) Thank you!
The following morning I was first down to surgery, a different Neurosurgeon was performing the operation and they, the Anesthetist and the team were lovely, caring, happy and professional and immediately put me at ease. Thank you!
I was in surgery a few hours and when I woke I felt good, I'd had a local anesthetic before they woke me. (I've had numerous operations under general anesthetic and have always woken up crying in pain and distress.) Thank you!
Back on the ward in my cubicle I was looked after amazingly well by all nurses, who were all very busy but always happy and helpful until I was discharged three days later. Thank you!
I was seen by the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist who were equally professional, helpful and happy. Thank you!
As you can see, I cannot thank you all enough, especially my Neurosurgeon
From the porters, the tea/coffee staff, the cleaners, ALL staff involved in my care, (the chefs - the food was lovely too), EVERYONE, I cannot thank you enough, thank you!
I was re-admitted a week later as I had overdone it, my own fault and was treated equally amazingly well, I'm not yet discharged completely and today I've had cause to ring up for advice and maybe I was lucky but there was a Neurosurgeon on hand to speak to who is obviously very busy but took time with me to give me the best advice ... as I type this, a Dr has just called me to invite me in tomorrow to get checked out ... Thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, absolute FIRST CLASS care!!
"First Class! Thank you!"
