This was the first time I had entered the new hospital when I went in to have a caeserean. After having children in Ashington old hospital and the Wansbeck this was a totally different experience.
When we walked into the ward we were both welcomed and shown to the room that I would be staying in the whole of my stay. It was very clean and it was lovely having ensuite facilities and a pull out bed for my husband, was another extra bonus.
The staff explained things very clearly and made the wait for my caeserean a calm one instead of being worried sick I was quite calm and relaxed.
The surgery went well and I couldn't thank the theatre staff enough, they were all brilliant and explained things that happened in detail. Aftercare in the recovery room was very good too. It was a very relaxed atmosphe.
Aftercare on the ward for the two days I was in was a calming experience and made the first two days of my babys life a positive one.
The only negatives I have about the hospital was the constant smokers around the doorways which made the entrance very smelly and not very healthy for people that do not smoke. Another problem was the drunks singing and shouting in the car park on both nights that I stayed. Why is there not a guard that moves these people away like they do at the rvi and freeman.
Overall I would recommend the maternity services at this hospital. I would like to thank all the staff that I met whilst staying there.
