"Lack of care at the Northern General"

I was on H3 in the Northern General after a hip replacement.

The day staff were all really good and some of the nursing staff were exceptional.

But they needed more night staff- better night staff. Also the sink in my room was blocked throughout my stay and was unusable. Additionally the phone next to my bed was a rip off.

I had no buzzer and was very embarrassed as one night staff member closed the curtain and walked away when I said I wanted to be sick. This was not reported in notes.

Because the buzzer was missing, I soiled the bed, I then pressed the emergency buzzer for assistance. The nurse on duty was very off hand with me, to my amazement I felt I was treated with contempt. It was due to my epidural that I couldn't control my bowels- but the nurse was unsympathetic.

I believe that the skin burn on my scrotum was a part of being left in a soiled bed.

Also on one occasion a nurse left two tablets in a container by my bed, I didn't take them and informed the nurse of this in the morning. She said they were not my tablets and shouldn't have been left there. I dread to think what the consequences would have been if I'd taken them.
