What I liked
I recently suffered from extreme shortness of breath and chest pain - Very Worrying !
Went to DMH A&E department and checked-in at reception. Within 5 mins I was being seen by an A&E nurse and having blood pressure test and ECG.
Spent most of the next 8 hours between A&E and Ward 14 having various tests and checks and was very happy with the treatment I recieved. The Doctor who attended to me in A&E sought to keep us (my wife and I) informed of my apparent condition whilst retaining a reasonable note of caution until the results of some of the tests were received. The nurses were likewise careful to explain the purpose of medication I was being given.
Throughout the day, both in A&E and on Ward 14, I was treated in a friendly manner and with care and attention by all those staff with whom I came in contact. A worrying day was eased considerably by the attention (and as a result, reassurance) I received at the hospital.
Although feeling very unwell, I had plenty of opportunity to observe what was going-on around me and can confirm that great care was being taken by staff regarding infection control - as patients were brought into A&E for example, the stretchers (handrails and exposed surfaces) were wiped-down carefully before re-use.
Although I obviously have no wish to return to hospital, I was entirely happy with the treatment I recieved and would not hesitate to re-visit if the need arose.
What could be improved
I was provided lunch, this was rather 'institutional' but perfectly acceptable (may not have felt the same if I'd been kept in for a couple of weeks).
