I don't live in Winchester - I was home visiting my parents from uni when I was very unwell. As it was a Sunday I got an appointment with Out of Hours doctor (through 111) in the evening. The doctor took one look at me and admitted me through to the emergency department with ?appendicitis. I was seen by the nurse almost immediately, and seen by an SHO 10 minutes later. All the staff were really nice to me and reassuring. I was on ED for only an hour before they'd got me a bed on the Short Stay Surgical Ward. I was also told I was booked in for surgery the next day if necessary.
The same SHO came to see me again which was really nice for me, as I'd never been an inpatient before I was really scared. I was also seen by a consultant in the middle of the night who examined me thoroughly.
Luckily it was not appendicitis it was gynaecological and after scans the next day I was able to go home around 5pm. The staff looked after me so well, and have given me real comfort that if ever I am truly in a life threatening emergency that I will be cared for properly. I am also about to qualify as a nurse myself and I saw no fault in any of the clinical staff. Very impressed with how the ED managed everything, especially for a sunday night.
"Very Efficient ED"
