I have attended this year 4-5 Recovery College at Merton Civic Centre courses, as I had been diagnosed with moderate depression and severe anxiety.
I found them to be very helpful, and should be essential for anyone who has any kind of mental illness/disorder.
The facilitators were excellent, putting together one-off or course sessions that lasted 4-8 weeks, for a cross-section of people with various mental illnesses, and they were structured in a way that was easy for everyone to understand and participate in, and most importantly, learn the skills that will help them take them through the journey from recovery, to being able to cope and get on with their lives.
I think The Recovery College should be given additional funding, so that it can continue to improve people's lives, especially as mental illness is one of the most common challenges we face going forward, with all of the associated pressures of everyday life becoming harder for a lot of people, as well as having an ageing population.
I will be continuing with courses in 2016, as it will aid my recovery further.
