"Ferries cause a bit of stress in the winter"

About: North Ayrshire Council - Three Towns, North Coast and Arran

(as a service user),

I get carers in most mornings – they help with showering or washing and dressing. I’ve got my alarm if I ever need help at other times, I did need to press it once about a year ago.

My wife and I stopped the carers coming in a couple of mornings each week as we felt we were covered. The carers are all different but are mostly good – they are particularly good at shaving and dressing.

The only thing is that I need to hang about a bit in the morning, in my dressing gown, waiting for them. The carers come at my appointment time but the time itself is a bit late.

This time of year is hard with the ferries. Some carers come from the mainland and I feel they are always looking over their shoulder worrying about the ferry being cancelled and getting back home because of the weather.

If you are able to get in touch with us on 01294310222, I will be more than happy to have your circumstances reconsidered with regards to the time of your care visits and will arrange for the care at home manager for the island to come out and visit you at home?

I am glad that the community alarm gives you some peace of mind and I would be grateful if you would note that we are also in the process of recruiting new staff into the island service and this should help with any concerns with regards to the ferries.
