"Poor care at Warrington in 2005"

In September 2005 my father was a patient at Warrington hospital, he was discharged before the results of blood and urine samples were back, the consultant was unaware that these tests had been taken until we had a meeting with him 2 days after dad was discharged. This led to his readmittance and he died 2 days after that of sepsis caused by the untreated infection. During his stay there I witnessed a nurse taking blood from my dad without wearing gloves and then moving on to another patient without washing his (the nurse) hands.

On one occasion I found my father lying on the floor of the ward with nobody taking any notice of him, My husband and I were my fathers only visitor's and had been away on honeymoon and came back to find him and his clothes filthy despite me having told staff I wouldn't be available to do dads laundry that week and they assured me they would attend to his needs. There were used gloves and soiled tissues in a bag of laundry (which my father was not able to pack) that I took home to wash.

In my fathers medical notes it states that the consultants team was beeped but did not respond, even though it was obvious that my father was dying he was left in a ward and not afforded the dignity of a side room for his last days. When I queried this afterwards I was informed in writing that 'these rooms were occupied by seriously ill patients', I was assured 'lessons have been learned' and that 'action plans have been put into place' .
