"Endoscopy Without Sedation"

About: Victoria Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

I had to have an endoscopy done and decided to try to have it without sedation as I hate the feeling sedation gives me and how I feel afterwards.

I was very apprehensive but the admitting Nurse was friendly and reassuring. My surgeon, Miss Darrien who did the Endoscopy was cheerful, kind and efficient. The 2 nurses assisting were great constantly telling me how well I was doing ( ha ha)

Anyway it was over fairly quickly and because I had no sedation I was able to leave immediately, I was glad I had decided to have it done this way.

Once again thank you to the caring staff, I consider myself fortunate to live in Fife and be treated at the Victoria Hospital.

Dear Granny

Well done, it is great that you were able to go ahead without sedation despite yor apprehension. In a situation like this, you definitely need staff to be calm, confident and reassuring and it sounds as if they got it spot on for you. I will be delighted to pass on your kind comments which will be greatly appreciated by staff. It may be that other patients will also consider having the procedure in future, without sedation as a reuslt of hearing of your experience.

Thanks for taking the time to share this with us

Regards

Louise Ewing
