My mother was admitted to The Friarage on more than one occasion with advanced Alzheimer's/physical health issues and also in the last week of her life.
The care for her in The Friarage was exceptional.
They treated mum with the utmost dignity, professionalism and understanding.
They were extremely proactive and unlike other hospitals when we asked for information or something to help with mums care we only had to ask the once - the communication was so very good in the hospital that they kept each other informed and so we felt everyone was in the loop and action was taken.
They work long and hard shifts and yet never at any point did we feel they were less than totally attentive.
It felt efficient, safe and yet totally caring - in some hospitals you feel the paper work and routines are what are important - in the Friarage all of that gets done and you feel that care and professionalism is always at the forefront of their minds - it hasn't lost the central purpose of what the hospital and professionals are there for in the first place.
As visitors you are welcomed and your presence with patient-relatives is seen as important to their care rather than an interruption.
We experienced their care to us and in turn that made it easier to care for mum.
We understand the CQC have given the hospital a rating of room for improvement but this just doesn't reflect the experience and outcomes for us.
It is sad to see this rating - do not let it put you off or colour your judgement of The Friarage - it is a truly remarkable place with truly remarkable professionals within its walls.
The box below asks which department we visited - there isn't a box for the wards which mum was on which were CPU, Ainderby and Romanby - all absolutely excellent.
"Care, professionalism and dignity"
